BIRTH OF A DRAGON

Born on August 17, 1988, in London, England, during the Year of the Dragon, MJ entered the world under extraordinary circumstances.

Raised in a family rooted in the performing arts, his mother was a professional ballet dancer from California, touring internationally while pursuing her career. Behind the curtain, however, a darker reality unfolded. Managed and controlled by an abusive partner, she found herself trapped in a life of fear and violence.

MJ’s first two years were marked by unimaginable hardship. Alongside his mother, he endured periods of isolation, being held against their will and cut off from the outside world. Many nights were spent hiding in a bathtub, unable to sleep, living in constant fear of what might happen next.

Amid the darkness, one thing gave his mother the strength to keep going: the eyes of her young son. Looking at her baby, she found a reason to endure, a reason to fight, and a reason to believe that a different future was possible.

Just before MJ’s second birthday, mother and son escaped what was rapidly becoming a potentially fatal situation. It was a courageous decision that changed the course of both their lives.

The years that followed were far from easy. They moved from one women’s refuge to another, rebuilding their lives from the ground up. Determined to create a better future, MJ’s mother returned to education, reclaimed her independence, and worked tirelessly to provide opportunities that neither of them had ever been given.
