WU TANG SWORD

A legendary style, reborn in the hands of a new generation. Are you ready to wield it?

It starts with a question.

“Do you think your Wu-Tang sword can defeat me?”

For many, that line is just a soundbite in a Wu-Tang Clan track. But for true fans of Kung Fu, it’s a gateway to something deeper—a world of cinema, brotherhood, and martial mastery.

At Temple – The 36th Chamber, this season we’re diving straight into that world by bringing the legendary Wu-Tang sword style to life—both on-screen and in training.

The Wu-Tang Connection: From Shaolin to Staten Island

The Wu-Tang Clan, one of the most influential hip-hop groups of all time, took their name and aesthetic directly from the golden era of 1970s–80s Hong Kong Kung Fu films. They sampled voices, soundtracks, and philosophies straight from the Shaw Brothers classics, layering wisdom and warrior energy into their rhymes.

One of their most iconic samples comes from the film Shaolin vs Wu Tang (1983), where the question is posed:

“Do you think your Wu-Tang sword can defeat me?”

It’s a moment of tension between two rival sects. Shaolin. Wu-Tang. Two legendary schools of Kung Fu. Two opposing forces, bound by honour, discipline, and blade mastery.

This line became more than a quote. It became a challenge, a philosophy—and a rhythm that shaped the Wu-Tang Clan’s identity.

What Is the Wu-Tang Sword Style?

While the Wu-Tang Clan drew their name from cinematic legend, Wu-Tang Sword as a martial style is rooted in Wudang Mountain martial traditions in China—known for internal arts, flowing footwork, and elegant weapon techniques.

At Temple, our “Wu-Tang Sword” play combines that flowing energy with cinematic sharpness—fast strikes, controlled breath, and powerful expression. It’s as much an art form as it is a combat-ready discipline.

And whether you’re a lifelong martial artist or a complete beginner, you’re invited to step into that world.

Learn the Sword — Anywhere in the World

Thanks to our Temple Training app, you don’t need to be in London to train.

You can now study the Wu-Tang Sword form from anywhere—whether it’s your local park, your home dojo, or your gym.

But if you’re local?

You can join the Kung Fu Fam every Saturday at 11am right here at Temple, where we run full in-person sessions dedicated to mastering this style step-by-step.

Each session is a fusion of meditation, movement, and martial performance. Think flow. Power. Precision.

And yes—we do ask that question:

Can your Wu-Tang sword defeat mine?

Kung Fu Cinema & The Big Screen Comeback

As fate would have it, the Wu-Tang sword story comes full circle this June.

On Friday, June 6th, you can watch Shaolin vs Wu-Tang—restored in stunning 4K—on the big screen in Brixton, thanks to our friends at Kung Fu Cinema.

Alongside it, the legendary Mystery of Chess Boxing will also screen—a film that deeply inspired RZA and the entire Wu-Tang Clan.

And that’s not all. Before the double bill begins, there’ll be:

Hip-hop beats

Retro arcade games

• A special short film tribute to martial arts legend Richard Norton

We’ll be there in full force. The Kung Fu Fam. The White Dragon. The energy of cinema, martial arts, and community under one roof.

Don’t miss it.
